The Golden Age of Travel
Mon 15th Oct 2018 @ 10:30 am - 4:00 pm
Lecturer: Paul Atterbury
Paul Atterbury is an experienced lecturer in the art, architecture, design and decorative arts of the 19th and 20th centuries and is well known for his many appearances on the BBC’s ‘Antiques Roadshow’.
He will be talking to us about how speed, style and elegance influenced the nature of travel from the Victorian period to the 1950s. He will bring to life the great liners, luxury trains, extravagant interiors and memorable journeys associated with international travel during that era, as well as showing us some of the richly decorative publicity material of the day.
After lunch he will be looking at and discussing travel related items and souvenirs brought in by members and guests. We will be journeying back to a time of luxurious travel. Please bring along any items or souvenirs you think might be of interest.
Costs: MEMBERS £33 GUESTS £35
(Includes coffee/tea on arrival and between morning lectures, plus seated lunch). (Tickets are non-refundable unless there is a waiting list)
