Day Of Special Interest -15th of May 2023

May I introduce myself, I am Hennie Walton and I have  taken over from Penny Brentnall. Penny managed a run of very successful Days of Special Interest and I understand the daunting responsibility I have to maintain the high standards she has set.

My first Day Of Special Interest will be held at the Arthur Morison Memorial Hall in Cucklington Village on the 15th of May 2023 and I am very much looking forward to seeing you there.

The subject will be Sir Stamford Raffles and his remarkable lifetime achievements.

It will be given by the highly respected Arts Society lecturer Denise Heywood.

You can see the details on the lecture here.

THE ARTS SOCIETY BLACKMORE VALE

MEMBERS’ CHRISTMAS NEWSLETTER 2022

Our 2022-23 season is now well under way with, to date, three very different lectures: Timothy Walker on colour in gardens, Patrick Conner on the British Army in India and, this month, Henry Venning on the Art of the Cartoonist.

Programme Cards for our 2022-23 season are available for collection at tick-in before lectures.

Now that COVID restrictions are gone we have been able to reactivate some of our more social events.  It was lovely to see so many of you on 1 December and to enjoy a celebratory pre-Christmas mince pie and glass of wine.  Hennie Walton has taken over from Penny Brentnall and is planning a Day of Special Interest (DOSI) for 15 May 2023.  Details will be available soon and tickets will go on sale at our February lecture.  We aim to hold an Evening Celebration in the summer.

Arts Volunteering, (formerly Young Arts) sets out to forge a wider connection with our local community.  Our Committee member for Arts Volunteering, Pippa Schofield, is working hard to identify good projects for us to support.  More news on this later in 2023…..

Sadly, The Arts Society no longer provides support for Church Recording.  Our own Church Recorders, led by Felicity MacSwiney, have recently retired.

Full information on our events is available via this link, https://theartssocietyblackmorevale.org.uk/our-lecture-programme/

The committee wish all our members a very healthy and happy Christmas and a peaceful and prosperous New Year.  We are looking forward to seeing you all on 5 January to hear Paul Chapman on Picasso’s Guernica followed in February, in complete contrast, by Sarah Lenton on Opera: The Melting Pot of Culture.

Warm Regards,

Ann
